FG and Organised Labour Reach Accord on New Minimum Wage Amid Nationwide Strike

The Federal Government and Organised Labour have reached significant resolutions following a critical meeting on Monday, 3rd June 2024. The meeting, held in the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, aimed to resolve the nationwide strike initiated by Labour earlier that day.
The strike was called after the Tripartite Committee on National Minimum Wage (NMW) negotiations stalled, prompting the intervention of the National Assembly on 2nd June 2024.
Key Resolutions Reached:
1. Commitment to a Higher Minimum Wage: The President of Nigeria, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, reaffirmed his commitment to establishing a National Minimum Wage exceeding N60,000.
2. Continued Negotiations: The Tripartite Committee is scheduled to meet daily for the next week to finalise an agreeable National Minimum Wage.
3. Labour's Response: In recognition of the President's commitment, Labour leaders will convene a meeting to consider this development.
4. Protection for Workers: It was agreed that no worker would face victimisation due to participation in the industrial action.
